The DREAM Act failed to pass the Senate but actions of the past few weeks have ignited a fire under DREAMers across the nation and have woken up the immigrant community. We now know who supports the immigrant community and will continue to build up the pressure on congress to pass the DREAM Act. Here some of the headlines on Saturday's Dream Act Vote:

What's Going on With the DREAM Act?

During the past few weeks DREAMers from around the country have been pushing our political leaders to bring up the DREAM Act for a vote. We have been able to get promises from Senate Majority Leader Reid, Speaker of the House Pelosi and President Obama. We need to keep the pressure up and hold them to their word. Let's keep up the work and get the DREAM Act passed in these next few weeks.

Below are a few articles with updates on the DREAM Act.

SENATE DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD WITH DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION BILL- DREAM ACT LEFT IN LIMBO

9/21/2010 - from www.action.dreamactivist.org

For Immediate Release:

Today, the Senate chose not to move forward with discussion of the Defense Authorization Bill, which means that the Senate did not have the opportunity to add the DREAM Act as an amendment.

We are disappointed with the politicization of an issue that is clearly about education, hard work, and sacrifice. While we are well aware it is an election year, but we are not interested in our lives being manipulated as politicians make token demonstrations of support in order to win political points.

We would like to honor the wishes of the members who invoked procedure over the issues and call for Senator Harry Reid to offer the DREAM Act as a stand-alone bill.  He has repeatedly stated his commitment to the DREAM Act, as has President Obama, and has reiterated time and time again that it is necessary and timely legislation.  The DREAM Act is a truly American standard of reform based on hard work, sacrifice, and education, and we are confident we will pass this necessary piece of legislation before the congressional year is over.  Now is the time for this country’s leaders to do what is right, and invest in America’s future.

Act now! Dial: 1-202-224-3121 and ask to speak with Senator Reid from NV: "Hi I am calling to ask that senator Reid stop playing politics with the DREAM Act. I am calling to ask that he immediately bring it up for a vote. Thank you."

PASS THE DREAM ACT NOW!

9/18/2010

The DREAM Act will be voted on this Tuesday. The DREAM Act would create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented students. Call Senator Barbara Mikulski and Senator Ben Cardin and urge them to support. Dial 1-888-254-5087 and request to be connected to the Senator’s office. Deliver the following messages when you call:

“Hi, my name is ___________ and I am calling to urge SENATOR ____________ to support the DREAM Act (S.729). We need the Senator to take leadership and stand up for the dignity of immigrant families and education for all. We need the DREAM Act now. Thank you”

After your calls, update us on how they went on our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Maryland-Dream-Youth-Committee/110014299055751

LETS STOP DREAMING AND BEGIN ACHIEVING

MDYC’s Call to MD DREAMers

9/17/2010

The MDYC is organizing a massive call in effort to important political targets who will be essential in passing the DREAM Act. We were in the same position in 2007 when the DREAM Act was brought up to vote when we lost mainly due to the calls made by the anti-immigrant supporters. It seems the same thing is happening again but many states with DREAM Act groups are helping change the tide. We are closing the gap but we need to make a strong push in these next few days.

We have a new facebook page set up for the Maryland DREAM Youth Committee (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Maryland-Dream-Youth-Committee/110014299055751). We have place the number people can use to call on their Senators on the page. The MDYC website, www. maryland-dyc.org has the full script of what people can say and updates about what is going on.

The plan is to everyone write something on the wall of the facebook page after you make your call. This will encourage other people to make calls and reach out to people who may not know about the DREAM Act. Today we can focus on calling our senators, Mikulski and Cardin. We have a goal of making 25 phone calls by the end of the day. Lets get those calls going and get our family and friends calling!

If you’re interested in helping out more in these next crucial days please call 301-693-5357 or e-mail mdyc10@gmail.com

BREAKING NEWS: DREAM Act to be Introduced and Voted on Next Week
9/14/2010

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has confirmed today that the DREAM Act will be part of next week's defense vote and hopes it will pass! Last night, Jorge Ramos voiced that the DREAM Act is the best plan of action in terms of immigration legislation this year. The opposition is already prompting their base to say NO to DREAM. Keep making those calls to Senator Barbara Mikulski and Senator Ben Cardin

Dial 1-888-254-5087 and at the very beginning request to be connected to Senator's office. All you have to say is “Please connect me to Senator ________ office.”

Deliver the following messages when you call:

“Hi, my name is _________ and I am calling to urge SENATOR BARBARA MIKULSKI to support the DREAM Act (S.729). We need Senator Mikulski to take leadership and stand up for the dignity of immigrant families and education for all. We need the DREAM Act now. Thank you"

“Hi, my name is _________ and I am calling to urge SENATOR BEN CARDIN to support the DREAM Act (S.729). We need Senator Cardin to take leadership and stand up for the dignity of immigrant families and education for all. We need the DREAM Act now. Thank you"
